Microsoft C# Certification Exam 70–483 is quite difficult to pass because of its tricky questions and skill set evaluation. Regardless you have got enough C# experience does not mean you’ll be able to pass the exam. The exams dive into minutia, asking questions that people with years of experience may sometimes find difficult to answer. I have been working as a trainer for the Microsoft Certification exam preparation and in my due course experience, I have prepared some tips for passing the C# Certification exam.

1. Know What You Must Need to Know

You will find questions in exam that you have never seen before. But there is a sigh of relief for you. Microsoft has given us the detailed description and content of the Exam 70–483. This link must be the first place where you’ll find objectives and sub objectives of the C# Certification Exam 70–483. Always make sure that you understand the detail of each objective enlisted in the site.

2. Find Good Study Material

There are many study guides available out there for you to pass the Microsoft C# Certification Exam 70–483. So I have listed the most popular study guides for you to look at:

1. The C# Programmer’s Study Guide (MCSD): Exam: 70–483

2. MCSD Certification Toolkit (Exam 70–483) : Programming in C#

3. Exam Ref: 70–483 Programming in C#

There are also unsanctioned “brain dumps” that many exam candidates use. I will not go into detail, but I strongly advise against using them. Most of these sites violate Microsoft Intellectual Property rights and if you are caught using these resources, Microsoft may levy significant penalties against you.

3. Take Notes

Always jot down the important points you think can come as a question in the exam. I remembered, sometimes there is a question in the exam and you have its answer written in your notes. Writing the notes will make the concept remain in your short term memory. So whether you read your notes afterwards or not, Its a likelihood that you will never forget that.

4. Practice Code

There are two types of practices you need to have before taking the exam. One is code practice and the second one is exam practice. Taking the exam with no prior hands on code will definitely lead to a failure and devalues the certification purpose. You need to make sure that you also have written the code of all topics you go through while preparing.

As the exam contains many type of questions like multiple choice, drag and drop, code restructure, it is necessary to have a prior exam practice before you take the actual exam. There are many vendors out there e.g. MeasureUp, who provide you practice exam simulations that you can practice on. Taking practice exams will prepare you with the User Experience you’ll see while taking your actual exam.

5. Register the Exam

Always register the exam long before you have decided to take it. It sets the deadline and motivates you to prepare for it. I have explained the process of registering the C# Certification Exam 70–483 in my previous article here so make sure to check that out too.

6. Manage Your Time

You have got total 120 minutes for the exam. Make sure sure to spend a reasonable amount of time on each question. If you come across a question which is very hard to guess and takes your time just mark it for later review and move to the next question. I know many persons who just got failed because they ran out of time. So manage your time WISELY!

These tips has helped my students to prepare for C# Certification Exam. I hope these will help you too. If you like the article, make sure to read my previous article on Why Future Belongs to Certified Programmers. Thank you :-)

Be great,
